A LIVING LAB FOR INNOVATION TO SOLVE BIG PROBLEMS IN CONTEXT
'REDX WeSchool' is an Innovation Lab at S. P. Mandali's Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (PGDM), is a vibrant ecosystem of Innovation, rolling out new and innovative commercial and citizen-based technologies to create a framework that supports wide-ranging needs of urban populations and corporations. We strive to go beyond known boundaries and disciplines of technology innovation for social impact. As a testament to our commitment to pioneering solutions, we have filed six patents, of which two have been granted, reflecting our focus on originality, utility, and real-world application.
The focus is to leverage:
- Imaging and digital technologies, ultra low-cost hardware, mobile platforms and Internet of Things,
- Design skills like Design Thinking, Design Research, Design ethnography, concept prototyping, Design validation, Localisation, Authentic design and Brand Storytelling
- New Age Technologies like BlockChain, Generative AI, Deep Learning, Machine Learning and Computer Vision to develop tech-enabled innovations

The Lab was set up in May 2015 at Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research
(PGDM), Mumbai,
which is acclaimed as one of the fastest transforming B-School. It is focused towards
shaping management professionals who can bring about positive transformation at their workplace and the
society at large. Ranked among the top 21 B- Schools in India (12th rank in private school in Times of
India B-School) in their Best B-Schools Survey, the Institute has recently conferred the BMA Best
Management Institute of the year award for its contribution to management education. WeSchool is also
awarded Autonomy Status for all its University Program.

The REDX WeSchool Lab is in collaboration with REDX, a peer-to-peer invention platform by Prof. Ramesh
Raskar (Associate Director of MIT Media Lab, Assoc. Prof. at MIT and director of the Camera Culture
group at MIT Media Lab.), MIT Emerging Worlds Special

Innovative Business Ideas:
Conduct extensive research to identify and develop innovative business concepts.
Focus on sustainability principles in project selection and implementation.
Prioritize the commercialization of projects through the patenting process. -
Supporting Projects:
Organize sessions to increase awareness among students, faculty, and corporate partners about technological opportunities.
Provide technical assistance for project implementation and development. -
Proof of Concept Creation:
Offer comprehensive tech support for the implementation of software and hardware solu-tions.
Facilitate prototype testing to validate project feasibility and functionality. -
Organizing and supporting Innowe-led Hackathons:
Organized the Smart India Hackathon (SIH), right from the first one, to promote innovation and problem-solving among students at a national level.
Subsequently, hosted We4Tech and the MIT Hackathon, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and inclusion in technology.
Also mentored participants in competitions like Manthan and other institutional and national hackathons, supporting the development of impactful solutions.
Through these initiatives, the Technology Hub aims to drive impactful innovation within We-School, bridging academic research with practical applications in the corporate world.
